She's special because she's our only day 1 who has not only not died but also arguably grown in influence, to the point she almost isn't forced and has spawned sub-memes in Fishe posting. Her cirnofags have made enough original content on their own to fill an entire thread almost and they kept the /bant/'s PixelCanvas running when the cloverfags ruined everything. You don't have to like her, but to dismiss her when she's been /bant/'s only constant would be ignorant.
As far as original characters go though, there's Leaf Girl, but anything you use her for automatically invokes Canada. Duke is also another major part, but he's sort of the Gaston to Cirno's Desu, in that he was a later development made to counter her who later became his own thing.
