>>15540890this is the closest to good advice you're going to get re:books. before information spread was so commonplace it became worthless, books were the primary method of sharing "new, important" ideas. in something like moby dick, the author just talks about whale biology for 100 fucking pages because holy shit, there's so much to know about whales. now there's terrible versions of this like atlas shrugged but whatever, even a terrible ancient book is worth reading to understand how idiots think.
at this point though, books are miserable. early in covid when fun things were locked down i wandered into the local library just to see what it was like. after journeying through 5 "common areas" i found the popular books section and started checking back/ inside covers. every single fucking one was about a single middle-aged woman who solves murder mysteries, and they were all the 7th installment in the 11 (and ongoing) part series. i wouldn't even read something like that ironically.
