Basically everyone in America is from some other country, back in the early days just like in europe everyon just ate stew and fire cooked meat.
Back in the late 1800's-1900's is when you got people making ethnic foods, but a lot of times it was toned down to appeal to the lowest common denominator of peoples taste.
That plus cheap ingrediants (for money) gave you fast food, burgers, Pizza etc.
And dont fucking go on with me about burgers and pizza as if you euro fags dont have just as much bullshit fast food as we do, The Germans and UK are practically as fat as us.
In the last 25-30 years the american appetite has matured quite a bit. what what you actually find is many restaurants are blending all sorts of different foods together asain and mexican, french cooking with southwestern ingredients, English style pot pies with Indian/tahi stuffing.
There is no American food because there isnt a traditional american people to make it. Its a blend.
And you cant get a decent Taco or Burrito in Europe to save your life so you dont know good food anyway.
And sometimes a disgusting sloppy burger hits the damn spot.
