Grew up in the suburbs, lived in several major cities around the world then moved back to my hometown. It’s great, fuck people, I can’t stand having to “go out” all the time. I’d rather just be at home with my family 90% of the time.

It's depressing driving through the country on the interstate, and it's depressing driving through a small town and seeing a McD and a Subway and some white trash bar/grille and that's it. There are a fuckton of poor Baptist churches though in these shithole towns..which makes it even more depressing.

Yeah. I read the pic in OP, and I agree to an extent. Being trapped in a house in suburbia would suck if you were forced to stay inside all day and could only see friends by getting a ride from your parents.
I grew up in a small city so similar to a suburb in that it was all single family housing on quarter acre lots. There were lots of other kids in the neighborhood so free time was spent running around with them, biking, baseball in the park, basketball in someone’s driveway, or fishing in the river. The city was like 95% white so we did everything with minimal supervision and had no problems.

my kids are still too young to run around with friends, but I’m worried for them. Even doctors and nurses suggest giving toddlers ipads to free up your attention to nurse the baby. American suburbs are not "happy living near nature", they're isolating, car dependent asphalt hells surrounded by either corn/onions farms, barren wasteland, or woods you can't walk in without getting shot. There are some genuinely comfy rural areas in this country, yes, but that's not the suburbs where the vast majority of Americans outside the major coastal cities live.

there is nothing to do in the suburbs, and I had my own car since I was 16. you have to drive anywhere and everywhere which is fucking annoying. and lazy White trash is more rampant everywhere you go unless it's a high-end store or non-chain restaurant.
a lot of major US cities have big-ass parks or, just like suburbia, are 20-30-minutes of driving away from one.

Unlike the glorious big cities where everyone is stacked like sardines in identical apartments, the crime is so rampant and unchecked that you can't venture out at night and your neighbors have absolutely no sense of community despite being right beside each other.
