They made alot of camper trailers but some of them you can only cook outside or there not big enough or there to big to transport and also some of them are stuck driving them and looking at them as a vehicle. My biggest issue with vans and RVs is what to do when there's a mechanical failure. A shop won't let you live in your vehicle while it's on premisis so you're basically homeless until the repair is complete.

With a trailer, the towing vehicle can be serviced or replaced separately from your living space. The smaller the trailer, the more options you have for a towing vehicle (no need for a $80k diesle with a 5th wheel).

If you're trying to live the van life, and are not bringing a small shop's worth of tools, and know how with you, you're not going to make it.
I don't mean anything by it, but I seriously doubt living in a van is financially viable if you have to pay a mechanic every time something goes wrong.
