Well for one in the US you have to pay taxes on it still. Other than that being on a boat is a novelty. I'm gonna stay on the dirt where I can grow food and raise animals to eat and not get mercury poisoning.

Because you still have to pay for mooring once a year + docking fees (assuming you're not just coming into shore on a dingy)... it's nowhere near as cheap as people think it is and from your post it's very clear you don't live near around boats.

Don't forget you've got to supply your own electricity and petrol prices are through the roof so good luck with getting around on a budget.

You're not going to have both solar panels and a garden, if you have a garden on the bottom floor you're going to have issues with salt water. You could do hydroponics but that's got a ton of issues with energy usage and general practicality.

There is boat taxes, kinda the same thing as car tax. Not as high as property tax with a house, I guess. Plus you're going to have to pay for dock space in a marina, unless you own your own land with water access. In which case you will have to pay property tax on that.

How did they treat the flooring to get it to remain so light? I sanded my floors recently and coated them with clear varnish. It makes them several shades darker.
