Many don't want it in because it has alot of debt and has no useful resources or strategic advantage. Others don't want it because they say it will give Democrats votes because they are non-white and not so well-off economically. Many counter this by saying that PR is actually quite conservative and not so unlikely to lean Republican ( I honestly don't think this matters though, Reps won't view it as a red or blue state, they're going to view it as a brown state.)
However, generally when it comes to the question of statehood, the average American's opinion is either "i don't care" or "well, why the hell not?"
