It would have a shopping area in the center and on the very outside many stalls that would sell to the surrounding streets. On the inside it would be high density housing. People housed inside of it would work the stores inside and out and in exchange they'd receive a job and I would have stable tenants. I'd gradually expand the system and make bigger and better castle-cities.
It would have a "tiered" shape, getting taller gradually towards the middle because I like the way it looks. I reckon it would house as many people as a high rise or even many more eventually but would also provide me with income from the shopping and food selling going on in the center, the ultimate merger of housing and business where you could just go right outside your room to grab a bite to eat.
I'd also design little backstreets / roads / passages inside so if you really knew your way around it you'd have tons of places you could go to and shortcuts and stuff.
