Idk what's stranger - catching one of these for the first time in my life, or the fact that i have NEVER caught one before, even though they are supposed to be super common and ubiquitous

Not related to perches at all, but a very close relative of a carp, bream, etc. Also i think this is the fish that was originally bred into becoming a goldgfish, but i'm not sure, it might be the other carassius species

yeah it reminded me of a baramundi, so I just made an educated guess.
my second guess that it would be a carp but I'm not very familiar with carp since they aren't native here. I did catch a european carp in macintyre river, it was about 23 kilos. the carp were only in the river because they where introduced.

I have not eaten it yet, but i can tell you that they are considered pretty tasty for this kind of fish. I will probably just pat fry it tomorrow, especially if i catch something decent on my evening fishing

I've caught about two or three of them in the past while fishing in north new south wales and they aren't bad to eat. my relatives love them by I'm from the tropics so I'm used to tropical reef and ocean fish.
