Samples are used so that images load quicker, users can save smaller images to save space and image host websites don't have to print the entire image out everytime a user wants to check an image, thus reducing the payload of a server.
You probably didn't notice you were saving samples because you're phoneposting. The images look fine on smaller screen resolutions.
