In Willy Wonka, Mike alone was the only child whose punishment was ironically not self-inflicted. Augustus fell into the river of his own accord, Violet chewed on gum of her own will, and Veruca stood on the egg platform all by herself. Mike on the other hand, did indeed choose to shrink himself, but he enjoyed the time he spent tiny, and wanted to stay that way and even go through the television again to be even smaller. Mike's punishment came not from his own actions, but from what Wonka unwillingly inflicted upon him by forcing him into the taffy puller. Mike got screwed by Wonka, plain and simple.
