>>16049324I think she was probably killed for something she did to an associate of the father, probably she didn't comply with bad touching and the parents had to calm her down. I'm not a pedophile so I can't really judge what an attractive victim is supposed to be like, but she was described as social and friendly enough to be targeted and independent enough to reject it and get mad. She came home after a party and was fed a favorite snack at abnormal time, something the parents categorically denied doing, probably to avoid the "why."
Parents knew it was coming the night before and let it happen, door left unlocked, but legitimately didn't know where her body was when they set up the kidnapping hoax. It was definitely written by them, and the emotions in the police call were probably real grief. The hoax itself was designed to be a dead end when they ignore the conditions and call the police; they may not have realized the body was still in the house when writing it. If she wasn't in the basement, it would have been that she was simply never returned to them.
Based on their lifestyle, it seems to me they were trying to host parties for much richer and better connected people who might have crossed the line but been untouchable. Dad can't do anything about it, but the girl herself might have made a scene. The police not taking it seriously could be an indicator they were already told what to expect, or at least understood the implication. Inviting the neighbors over may have actually been for their benefit, just so they could come to terms, be interviewed about it, etc.
The whole thing just shows a lack of planning and competence from the killer. He expected everybody else to just cover for him at any personal cost, and everyone seemed like they were a little bit in on it. Supports the idea that he was just a rich abuser and the dad was stuck in his orbit.
