>>16077600>How come did this happen?I suspect you mean "How did this come to happen?" and I'll explain:
What I think started this chain of events was the (alleged) suicide of Byuu, A.K.A Near. A prominent figure in the video game emulation community, Near's suicide was supported by an anonymously written Google Doc which explained the time and death and specific circumstances. The apparent suicide was published by USA Today, and then nothing else was presented, with only Near's only known professional associate, one Hector Marcan viciously returning any requests for clarification collectively as harassment.
This set the stage, IMO, for the more recent incident. Since Near's (alleged) suicide, KF had been the victim of numerous DDoS attacks along with a campaign lead by clown-shaped Twitter torque converter Keffals to pressure CloudFlare into dropping the site. This resulted in only mild inconveniences until very recently, when Keffals alleged, without any supporting evidence, that a KF user attempted to have them SWATted. As well, it is noted that a search warrant was served and that a HDD was taken during this SWATting. Also, yes yes, Catboy Ranch, grooming minors, underground HRT scene, etc.
Following the above, Keffals framed the "swatting" as KF attempting to have him executed, posting a screenshot to a no-name account that had only made a handful of posts allegedly posting an open bomb threat. The supposed bomb threat was what made CloudFlare ultimately drop KF in a company first, followed with it being ammunition for other events that ultimately resulted in the site being forcibly dropped by other providers.
Relentless gaslighting, when paired with pressure campaigns, is a frighteningly powerful, yet surprisingly old tool.
