I started out just as general “medicine”, then I worked ER for 8 years, and now have transitioned to more of a desk type job with even better pay. But er experience was a great door opener, seemed like everyone liked to see it on the resume. Supposedly intensive/cardiac care is similar, any area of focus basically where you actually need a minimum of some critical thinking, vs like a retirement home nurse or whatever.
