Seriously, if you never take your training wheels off, you'll never learn to function in the real world. It's all about the consequences of your actions. You have to take risks to get anywhere in life.
Instead of asking out any moderately attractive stranger, find someone you care about. Someone you work with, someone you're around a lot, whatever. And try your best. You will embarrass yourself, and unlike talking to strangers, you'll think "man, I shouldn't have done that, that was fucking lame". But you'll get over it, and after embarrassing yourself a bunch, it'll hurt less and less.
If you don't take risks, you'll get nowhere. That's a fact in every facet of life. You gotta weight the risk/reward in any situation.
Best case scenario, you marry your coworker, Worst case scenario, you're fired from your shitty fast-food job for sexual harassment because you've managed to be so pathetic as to terrify your coworker. That's life.
