Today's topic: Dispensationalism
2 Timothy 2:15 – Paul teaches us, that we have to divide the scripture, so we don’t believe in the wrong doctrine. It’s called dispentsationalism and it’s necessary to find the truth. Dispensation means applying things to different people. In this case, it’s about applying scripture to different groups of people in different timelines.
1st timeline is called „creation” and it’s in the Book of Genesis chapters 1-3.
In Genesis 2:16-17 salvation is based on works alone. God forbade Adam and Eve to eat the fruit from the tree. They lost their salvation the moment, they decided to eat it. This fragment also shows, that salvation by faith through grace wasn’t the case throughout the entire Bible and different timelines have different salvation plans. Christians today don’t lose their salvation by eating fruits obviously, so it doesn’t apply to Christians today.
2nd timeline is called „conscience”. Salvation plan for people in this timeline is based on faith plus works, according to their conscience.
Romans 2:13-15 – they are justified by keeping the law and their conscience is the law. God judges them according to their conscience, because their conscience can differentiate what’s good and what’s evil. Noah was saved by faith and works according to his conscience
In Genesis 6:5 humanity is corrupted and God decides to flood them. 6:8-9 show us, that Noah was the only human, that was good. If he wasn’t good in his conscience and didn’t believe God, he wouldn’t built the ark and he wouldn’t be saved. Noah’s salvation is also different from Christian salvation, as our salvation is not based upon building boats. Also Christians often go against their conscience to commit sins.
Jacob 2:21-24 says, that Abraham also had faith and works. Abraham’s faith become perfected by his works, but our Christian faith is already perfect thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice.
