I like the tales of dead men's deeds. I guess maybe it is a bit archaic in that the transcendent soul's fate is based on the memories of the living, but i guess it goes with that sentimental "survived by" thing in obituaries
as for the soul i think in schaupenhauer's world as representation and will, the "will", although i have also heard it referred to as "the drive" or "the spirit" is probably a good approximation for the soul as a construct of pure ideal that would have no representation in a material world
