What happens is studios monitor the trackers for popular torrents, find which IP addresses are on them, and send out letters to the ISPs the IP addresses belong to. Your ISP may then contact you or give your details to the studio. Not seeding (sharing) a torrent may not be enough to stop the studio from contacting your ISP.
