I think I would have laughed when he said Daaaaria
Daria was like that
You weren't supposed to really identify with her
The whole point was that she was a bit too intense and it did her no favours
The other characters are supposed to be a bit dumb and one dimensional so you sympathise with them for drawing so much of Daria's ire for character flaws they can't really help
It wasn't the black girls fault that she didn't conform to black people stereotypes or the jock's fault that he did live a stereotype's life
