Cities are obviously easy, since they're mostly cubes inside and out, but you can also break down shapes and forms in nature in to simple to parse shapes. There are a lot of ellipses in nature, for one thing.
Have you been combining shapes with each other to make more complex forms? Have examined those forms, twisted them, stretched them, and manipulate them in to what you want? Cartoon character are often made out of simple forms, so that can be good practice for that.
