Anons, faggots, & jannies,

My father is very sick. I love him dearly but he doesn’t have much time. He is in end of life care now, so he maybe has a few nights left.

I’m trying to cope here. What are your beliefs (backed by science, of course) about the afterlife, spirit world, other dimensions etc.

I would like to read something that will help give me comfort as my father slowly passes from this earth.

sorry for your pain anon. i hope he is not suffering too much. my thoughts on the afterlife are not complete, i believe that there are several stages and trials, kind of like how there are in life. different periods of growth relating to your heart. still learning, but through my studies ive learned that Christ is the only Savior that can save your soul and lighten your heart

Life on this planet is fleeting, and passing is as peaceful as life. The soul is carried in the bodily vessel to learn how to serve itself or others. This process repeats time and time again until the soul figures it out.
Upon death, your father will return home to be with his departed loved ones. He will then undergo a spiritual examination which will determine if he breaks the cycle of rebirth or needs another go. Even if he plans another go, he may find a way back into your life some way.

i recommend Michael Newton, Rick Moody, Brian Weiss, but there are hundreds of books and peer-reviewed studies on out of body experiences, near death experiences, past lives, reincarnation (dr Ian Stevenson's work on xenoglossy in children is particularly fascinating because it's so well-documented)

your father won't be leaving- he'll just be transitioning to the next phase. even after we leave our physical body, our soul is still connected, especially to all those we knew and loved

My dad died in my 20's. I'm not religious, but here's something that helps me.
He isn't here to suffer. He isn't here to be in pain. He simply isn't here, or anywhere, but he was, and while he was, he enjoyed himself and we all enjoyed him and his company.
The atoms and electrons that made up his being feed the earth, grow the soil, make birds sing and it brings life to the planet.
In a way, I suppose you could say they do stay alive, just unknowingly, as fractured slivers of their will trickled down from dirt to tree.

Knowing what happens when you die is obfuscated by your mind being in chaos and trauma during the ordeal.
Do you 100% trust what might as well of just been a dream, or a random firing of synapses?
I don't. I know how flawed the human condition is. Whatever happens past consciousness can't be verified by the viewer, much less the onlooker.
