>>16481150I was born in 76 and my story is similar to
>>16481258. Up until I was 11, we lived in a trailer park and everyone knew each other. Even though we were not well-to-do, I had great christmases with all the latest toys, atari/coleco games, and all us kids stayed out until way past dark playing kickball or just riding on our bikes. It was a safe, comforting time.
When I was 11 my folks saved enough money to buy a 3 bed, 2 bath house in the city. I'd hang out with my new friends at school and we'd play D&D (2nd edition back then), hang out at the mall arcade on friday/saturday, and trade nintendo games and baseball cards like it was our currency.
Friday nights after school my folks had a ritual where we'd go out to eat at a local italian restaurant, then we'd go to Kmart to shop (Was literally the only department store in town back then) and go to the 2 local VHS rental shops to pick up moves and games for the weekend.
Our city was clean and safe in the 70s/80s/early 90s. Now it's a shit-filled trash burg. I got married and moved out. My folks home which cost them 50K in 1986 is now worth 3 times that according to Zillow.
