But we cannot return to the previous state of things. Not politically, not without collapse or war. Instead, there should be a push for a new voting system (yeah, democracy is shit, but this would be a stepping stone). One vote per family unit. Yes, this means gays and lesbian couples would also get one vote per couple, but they are a minority and this would not matter very much.
Meanwhile, females could not complain they are "having their vote/voice taken". Because they wouldn't be, not any more than men. If the couple agree on the vote, it is counted. If they do not, then no need to count because both would simply cancel each other anyway. No votes for singles - only families have truly vested interest in the future.
Men could not vote without a woman, and vice versa (except homosexuals). Equal. But better than now by far.
Also raise the voting age - ultimately, later, add further requirements.
