The healthcare sucks, most of the hospitals I’ve seen looked like they were stuck in the 1930s, not to mention the city ward offices that mostly didn’t even have computers. I left after 5 years cause I couldn’t take it. The best way to describe the Japanese are elegant savages, meaning their are backwards as fuck but do have an excellent sense of refined beauty. Now that I moved back I have the same job I did over there, make quadruple my salary, have my own house, and live around people that look like me, and share the same faith and values. Don’t get me wrong, there are many things I love about Japan and Japanese culture but you’re sticking your head in the sand if you’re saying it’s an earthly paradise. If you want the idea of what Japanese culture is like now, there is a great scene set in a fancy french restaurant in Juzo Itami’s movie Tampopo where these old business men have zero fucking idea about French food so they all just order what the first guy orders, but they all get kissed off at the young kid because he knows French and French food. It’s the perfect summation of Japan in a nutshell, it’s all about face and presentation but the inside is old and rotting away with no use or value anymore.
