You can get the Genki books for free on
archive.org, if you dont mind reading e-books. I personally hate reading e-books so i went ahead and payed 60 dollars.
I dont know your family situation, but perhaps starting with self-study, and showing your parents that youre serious about this, will help convince them to pay for your lessons in the future.
