Crisco is cottonseed oil (vegetable oil), they had seeds leftover from cotton production and figured out a way to monetize it.
But everyone used lard, so to get marketshare they started making up all sorts of stuff about how lard is bad for you and the wonders of Crisco and how good it was for you instead.
Meanwhile Crisco is insanely bad for you; it's junk that just stores itself in fat cells and your body doesn't know what to do with it.
Lard on the other hand is actually healthy for you, and one tbsp has over 1,000 IUs of vitamin D, you won't get that in any other food source (among other benefits)
People have this irrational fear of animal fat, whether it's from dairy products or meats, they think it's bad for you but it's just as good if not better than any other naturally occurring source of fat... but fruits and vegetables are not a good way to get fat.
