how do you cope or get over your father dying?
I don't feel like I have the ability to talk to anyone or want to, I choke up, subconsciously I am about to go back into my lonesome shell like way of life. Where I don't talk to anyone or post online for a long time and instead just better myself with lifting while in my own mind.

usually I try to have an optimistic mindset where I try to look on the bright side of things but I can feel like I'm slipping back into my old negative ways of thinking which I tried my hardest to get away from
this whole thing is hard to process and go through solo but I want to be the pillar of my siblings where I can help them get through this part of life

He was a great father and I enjoyed all of the time I was able to be with him. I would say he was a better father then most when thinking about how some households could have possibly be abusive

I'm glad to hear that you had a good relationship with your father, and I'm really sorry for your loss, I can't even imagine what you're going through. I know it means nothing, but my condolences to you and your family. I'm sorry, I don't have any advice for you or anything. Do you have siblings or other family you can talk to about how you are doing? Otherwise it might be worth looking into counselling or therapy or something like that. Just a suggestion. Please do as >>16584520 says though, isolation and substance abuse is most definitely not the answer.

I have some pals I can talk to about it later on and usually when I go through something I find anon's to be good company. without these people I would just go into my own mind, I don't find therapy or counseling to good for some reason. I find I can only talk freely on imageboards or with my close friends.
thanks for the condolences. I might abuse some substances and stay alone If I'm being honest. this is a part of life everyone has to go through

It might take a while longer but maybe try going to /adv/ for advice if you haven't already. They helped me once with some potential issues I was having with an apartment before I moved in there and they turned out to be right, so I'm basing their credentials entirely off of the only interaction I've had with them. The sample size is small (one, for me at least), but the success rate is 100% (still one, and still just for me).

It's one of those things you never really 'get over' my dad died about 3 months back and I've just accepted I'll never get over it. Best thing to do is treat it like AA, one day at a time. Substance abuse/isolation isn't the answer, for me I've been trying to keep his spirit alive by continuing on the path he started once he got sober. That and keeping in contact with people he was friends with, keeping hiking groups going and all that. It's weird being 22 and hanging out with a bunch of 45-50 year old recovering alcoholics/addicts in the woods, but I know they appreciate it and it has helped me go on since I keep the spirit alive for both me and them. Luckily enough too one of the men he was friends with introduced me to Orthodox Christianity before his passing and it has done nothing but help. Everyone I've met at the church has been understanding and wants to talk to you, not in a 'I'm a good Christian so I must help/listen to this person' kind of way but in a legitimate concern/care for a fellow man.
