there are 6 "special" types of cards in yugioh, that have different ways to summon them.
ritual monsters are blue and require a ritual spell card to summon them
fusion monsters are purple and require a polymerisation card to summon them
syncho monsters are white and require multiple monsters to summon, and at least one of them needs to have the word "tuner" in its card text
xyz monsters are black and need a certain number of monsters with the same level as it to be summon
pendulum monsters are a brown and green, and allow you to summon as many monsters between certain levels as you want per turn
link monsters are new, blue and require a number of monsters equal to its link number to summon. before link monsters you could summon as many of the other types of special monsters you wanted a turn. now you can only summon one, unless you have a link monster. then you can summon other special monsters in zones connected to its link markers, the orange triangles
