There are many very obvious reasons why natural selection would not have wiped out heritable versions of it. You would not expect to see, say, 50% of all offspring of the species inheriting the gene, but for a variety of reasons it's not at all surprising that ~5% are exclusively attracted to the same sex even if you assume most cases have a heritable component. (Especially if many are recessive, but even if many are dominant.)
