>>16683711was hoping we'd end up getting to that point because it's been unusually rainy and the problem is usually that we never get any precipitation when it is below freezing, not that it doesn't get cold enough. it's not necessarily super warm outside, but it's not getting that cold and my room retains heat from my pc really well

usually that's more of an upside fortunately. another problem with the old system was that if someone fucks up they can just kind of die instantly, so you could end up with queuing, load screens, and match prep time that lasted significantly longer than the match itself and that's not even accounting for the time spent finding a partner who might ditch you after 1 or 2 bad matches. it also ended up making the grindier matches feel like they took an absolute eternity in comparison even if they were only like 5 minutes long
with the new system you're commiting much more time when you queue up, but once you're in you get to play for 15-30 minutes more or less straight. it also makes learning far far easier since you're playing multiple back to back matches with/against the same few classes and skill levels
it's certainly not without some weird quirks, but i think it's an infinitely better system. fortunately it's an additional system with its own rating anyway rather than replacing the old one, so you can still just queue up for 2s or 3s with your buddies if you prefer that
