This guy is literally one of the two person that leading the Filipino Revolution against the Spanish just right before the Americans came, the other being Andres Bonifacio who tried to wage revolution with the doctrines of doctor Jose Rizal, which he probably misunderstood.

In the end, Spain just imploded like all overstretched empires do. Also, the reason English became so dominant is because of the US.

I seem to recall they won it because Spain didn't even bother properly defending it. Fully garrisoned Gibraltar is apparently impossible to take.

Well yeah, their real aim in that war was just to keep Spain from uniting with France, which Phillip V promised not to do. so naturally they dropped out of the war when it was convenient for them, they didn't care if the Austrian Hapsburg got the throne.
