Rose of Versailles is the best shojo anime I have seen.
From the new world was a very good anime when I watched it (This was a when I was in middle school so my tastes may have changed drastically )
The last anime I've watched was space battleship yamato (1974) and I thought it was alright but It wasn't the greatest thing I've ever seen. It had some really good moments but they were usually undercut later in the story. Still it is a pretty good adventure show.
Another good action show is Re: Cutey Honey (also yuri). The other Cutey Honey's I've watched, Cutey Honey (1973) and Shin Cutey honey were pretty bad.
