Why is weed illegal in most nations around the world, but alcohol consumption isn't?

It only makes sense to BAN alcohol because all it does is make people destructive and harm both society and the economy. Marijuana, on the other hand, is a much more natural and healthier alternative that boosts morale and isn't expensive to maintain.
