While 90's games seem better through the lens of nostalgia, they were a stepping stone on the way to this dystopian hellscape. People get so mad about modern movies and video games being trash because they want to have comfy escapism. Why not devote your life to fighting the shitty system instead of lamenting the decline of art? Art is downstream from culture.
