>>16758282It's a one trick pony in Japan. Hitori Bocchi reads "all alone" in Japanese when combined. The difference between the OG and Gotoh is that the former is literally named like that and the whole work revolves around name puns and the characters sharing a personality according to said names, and in BTR, Gotoh Hitori just decides to pick up the Bocchi moniker since she was never given one before, giving her a sense of intimacy between her band members as a result, and being oblivious to the fact that she got it for the pun in the name.
Hitori Bocchi sadly was never a lasting anime. People on /a/ rode the bandwagon when it aired, but faded into obscurity right after it finished airing. Compared to Bocchi The Rock's artistic direction, you can tell the OG is just too truthful to the original work, making it stale and boring as a consequence. When your show doesn't involve fighting scenes or blood to pump that dopamine rush in your audience, you gotta get a bit more creative to get an impact on the viewers, and this Bocchi just managed to do that. OPs, EDs and OST are also a godsend, which is why it just keeps topping multiple slots in the top 10 on Amazon JP.
A season 2 is just braindead imminent at this point.
