Officers raided Melendez's Glenbrook Road apartment on Dec. 28, and seized 40 pounds of marijuana worth about $200,000, and $175,000 in cash, Conklin said. Newly-purchased jewelry totaling $100,000 was also recovered.

An investigation into Melendez's assets was launched, Conklin said, noting that Melendez has no prior employment history.
