Is it true that the dialects and accents in your countries are so different that sometimes they cannot understand each other?
Well, for example, a German from the north cannot understand a German from the south. Is it true?

we have all the dialects mainly in the European part, and it is very easy to understand the dialects. In Siberia, everything is homogeneous, only one dialect, since they settled there relatively recently.

Yeah, Spanish language has many accents and dialect is kinda nuanced, but I still notice some differences in grammar and lexical differences which is due to the Native influence in each respective country. One notable difference that is easy to catch is pronoun usage of "tú" or "vos". It makes no difference for me which one the person uses, but it is funny how some online conversationalist attitudes change or derail because of it.

but with the standards that germanists have langauges like belarusian, ukrainian, even polish, would be considered dialects.

The dutch speaking part of Belgium and the Netherlands have many dialects for the quite small area. The Bruges dialect would be incomprehensible for someone from Groningen. Some people are pissed off by the fact some dialects automatically get subtitles and others do not.

Yes, the Bolsheviks made great efforts to destroy languages and cultures, especially Stalin.
Being a Russian speaker, the Ukrainian language has always been similar to my mother tongue. And I was shocked when I found out that there is a mixture of Russian and Ukrainian, for me it already sounded like nonsense.

True, and even within one language there are quite a few differences. Dutch is subdivided between the brabantian/limburgisch/west-flemish dialects (with a whole lot of differences within those groups), the french speaking part has it the picard/walloon dialects going on and there are even at least 2 german dialects within the tiny part that speaks german.

No one care about Spanish here since it was obviously directed to Western Europe, but I will always remember the day I first arrived to Mexico and some people in D.F spoke fucking fast and almost incomprehensible. I may be able to read any scripture in Spanish from whatever part of the world, but once you hear it you learn the true differences of the dialects and language. I mostly been to Northern Mexico and it is much easier to understand them. Then there are those people they call Chicanos and their Spanish is embarrassing. Made me feel better about my own Spanish since I mostly spoken and written English throughout my life. I met some Nicaraguans and Hondurans and the accent is really distinct. Guatemalans kinda sound like Mexicans and this might make the one we have here seethe. Now for my country there is that fucking annoying Rioplatense accent. Some Uruguayans share it, mostly near the area. And holy shit I cannot tolerate it sometimes...

Modern variants of both are still considered dutch.
But OK, within the frankish group the Bruges dialect would be very different from that spoken in Antwerp, only 90km between them.

We didn't have a true standard for dutch for quite a while as it was considered a peasant language, which allowed dialects to evolve and differ wildly. Compared to the dutch of the netherlands, our dialects are quite archaic.

The US has some dialects that cannot be understood by people two or three states away. If you go to coastal Louisiana, then travel to West Texas, you will encounter two different languages.

Here in Norway dialect is pretty simple to understand. Easy language in general. But not going to lie, that when you come to certan small towns in the middle of nowhere, the dialect can be a bit tricky some times.

some southern accents are so bad I can barely tell what they're saying, but I think that's more because they're just retarded rather than the accent itself. also, it's never happened to me yet but if someone ever unironically uttered the word hella in front of me I would automatically dissociate myself from that 'person',

How many of the states actually have the U.S Southern accent. I only know of Texas because of the Pop Culture and televised media. What about New Mexico or Louisiana? I know Arizona doesn't really have that accent, it sounds like they don't have one at all because the accent sounds well...American. California is technically Southern U.S. Why do they not have the accent? Or do they?

I don't know if I make sense.

I can't understand newfies very well. They sound like muddered Irish. I Remeber I was in Cuba on a resort and there were newfies there talking to me and I only understood 3/10ths of what they were saying. I just nodded my head. They probabaly thought I was a tard.

Otherwise most of the country I can understand their English. I find, though people in the Prairie provinces have more of the stryotypical Canadian accent "aboot" long o's etc.
