If you can get up to the north pole - northern lights are the black sun blasting through our atmosphere - you don't rotate, so you can stay alive. Maybe Garden of Eden/Olympus type stuff, but you can avoid the freeze over or floods. You then stroll down from the north and inhabit a clean slate society. You enslave all the people and release technologies at your will to stay as Gods on earth.
Maybe dragons too, sea monsters for sure.
