I wonder if he stumbled on something shady and he was being scared away intentionally or if it has some natural explanation and I'm just hearing words because that's how our brains work.
Somehow not as scary as the rotting old timbers and bent boards supporting a giant mound of boulders over his head though. Mine exploring is crazy. They're abandoned and not maintained.
Apparently it's "emanating from the area we just passed through." Could it have something to do with air flow in tight corridors with his body serving sort of like the little ball in a whistle? He mentions the wind at the same time. I've seen a few episodes of Scooby Doo in my day. Demons wouldn't scare you away; they'd eat you. People doing shady shit might scare you away though, and there was that rope there, which didn't look old and busted but like a newer nylon rope for climbing.
