>>16912442fortunately not. i always though the "don't learn japanese from anime" advice was always terrible for a lot of reasons
it's not totally inconceivable that someone could end up making some mistakes if they took the AJATT approach of explicitly rejecting all formal learning materials AND literally only watched fantasy shonen anime, but there aren't very many people trying to learn japanese that way and even fewer that are going to get further than some basic phrases
the fact that people talk funny in anime the vast majority of characters present in shows set in modern japan DO speak pretty close to real japanese people and not only is recognizing when characters deviate from that incredibly easy, it's also exceedingly useful in learning what those deviations mean
jotaro from jojo's doesn't speak "like an anime character" in some generic way, he's comically masculine and angry all the time which makes him perfect for learning what masculinity and anger sound like. it would be absurd to copy his speech 1:1 in casual conversation, but the way he speaks is made from a hundred smaller elements that are absolutely realistic and the thing that makes him sound absurd is that he uses all of them at 100% all the time. learning to read tone from real life experience is really difficult because you have to pick up a lot of small things that SOME people do SOME of the time, so these extreme characters prime you to recognize those things much more easily
that's all not to mention the fact that japanese TV notoriously also has insane over the top acting, so learning from that wouldn't be any "better" than learning from anime
>>16912483very sad. my middle school had art, choir, and band then my high school had art, choir, band, orchestra, and theater. technically my middle school had theater too but that was strictly as an after school thing
