What is the etymology of "based"?
From what I know is that some rapper used it and then /pol/ started using it ironically at first until it came into its own. Now it's ubiquitous

Basehead used to mean someone who is a crackhead. It used to be an insult for someone who is acting crazy or is kind of out there. The rapper Lil'B used to be called that because he was super skinny, was kind of weird, and wanted to rap in ways that people thought were weird. He turned that insult around and redefined it, calling himself "Based God" and basically making it a positive term for someone or something that's authentic and good. He became popular on the internet in the early 2010s because of his post ironic lyrics and his unique rapping style (now known as "cloud rap"). He became a meme essentially and "based" also became popularized on the internet as a result
