Life is clearly not a test because God is omniscient. God does not need a test to know what you are, he has always known the answer, none of us are worthy of Heaven or ever will be. The bible never says life is a test so God can know where to send you.
Rather, God created creatures that know both good and evil, the consequence of the forbidden fruit. To know evil it must be allowed to occur. We must be allowed to experience the consequences of our evil, which is why babies have cancer and our bodies die.
If, after experiencing and seeing the result of this evil we still cling to it and choose our evil over God, he simply gives us over to our desires and leaves our presence.
In this world God gives everyone "common grace". Even the wicked hear the voice of the birds, eat food, drink water, have happiness, etc. All things good are of God and without God there is no happiness, joy, love, peace, freedom, light, patience. There is only outer darkness, anxiety, regret and all things evil.
Those who choose God are adopted into his family and become his children. Those who don't were "planted by an enemy", and are the chaff and will be cast out like a leper. Know that leprosy is the physical version of what happens to our spiritual selves through sin.
Thankfully, God gave us a way to do evil, learn the consequences of not following God and be reconciled to him as he came to Earth in the form of a man, took responsibility for our sins as our father, like a dad whose child broke something in a store, and he will put our sins as far from us as East is to West, IF you believe, meaning you want to worship goodness.
Simple as.
