So I just learned my great grandfather was a Freemason I have no idea what a Freemason is I heard it is a secret society or something along those lines? Can someone tell me what the order is. All I know about my grandpa is that he was pretty deep in and had a mason funeral what does this mean?
any input would be great.

It's definitely easier to get in with family ties. A guy I went to church with has a long family history in Masonry and he got in instantly then got several of his friends at church and work in.
