If your reference points are only spicy, sweet, crunchy, fatty etc one note foods, you won't understand it and you'll dismiss it as bland. Are olives bland? Salami? Can you distinguish between different types of cheese by taste, and intuitively know which would pair well with other things on the platter? If not, your engagement with food is one dimensional. You might understand donuts, hot sauce, curry, deep fried foods, and grape soda, but not much else. Kek.
