your problem is a lack of law enforcement.
If your streets were safe you would have no need for a weapon. You are only excusing gun ownership, due to the failure of the state to control crimes.
This is my point exactly. Make it as LEGALLY easy for the state to prosecute criminals, and have a strong state with the WILL to actually enforce the law, and you will start seeing this get dealt with.
Pass laws that criminalize ANY drug or gun possession. And EXECUTE every single smuggler that gets caught. Like the asians do.
And you will immediately start seeing a decrease in gun and drug trafficking.
Some crime will always exist, but flagrant gun fights, and drug traffickign will cease if you act on it. Criminals will always look for the path of least resistance.
Make it so that they can still make some money, in low level scams and shit like that. But punish trafficking of guns and drugs very harshly. and the worst crimes will go away.
Criminals are cowards at the end of the day.
Police and Harsh rules = less crimes.
This is as basic as it gets.

it's ok to live in a poor country, that is safe. But when crime gets out of hand, you need to act like it.
Countries like indonesia, and thailand are safer than a rich society like the US. this is not a matter of gpd per capita.
