basically 5stars start with a <1% droprate, but every time you roll that droprate goes up a little bit, so you're waaay more likely to get a 5star on your 75th roll than your 1st and at 90 rolls they have a 100% droprate. how many times you've rolled since you last got a 5star is called your "pity"
the 50/50 thing means that you have a 50% chance that the 5star you get will be the one on the banner and a 50% chance to get one from the standard banner instead, so you could've gotten a keqing or mona from rolling on the yelan banner. that will never happen twice in a row though, so if you DO get a standard 5star from a character banner it means next time you're guaranteed to get the 5star you're rolling for
banners changing doesn't reset any of this stuff, either, so if i rolled 89 times on yelan and didn't get her i could roll 1 more time for her or wait until the next banner and roll once on it for a guaranteed 5 star
the situation i'm in is that the very last roll i did was yelan, so it's very unlikely i get a 5star without rolling at least 70 times and even when i do it might me a keqing. bad news for actually getting ayaka when she comes around, but it means that if i want the 4stars off the next banner i can safely roll like 30 times without running a high risk that i "waste" my 5star on someone i don't want
