My friend works for a nonprofit in San Diego helping to integrate refugees. Cringe, I know, but I’ve known him since we were kids and he’s a decent guy. Anyway, they spent the last year placing refugees from Afghanistan. They each get $2,300/month housing vouchers that last for TWO YEARS.
I can’t even afford a $2300/mo apartment, but I’m working my fucking ass off every day so some goat herder from the third world can? Are you fucking kidding me? And at the end of the day, I come back to my tiny apartment in bumfuck Nevada and eat dinner alone.
