If God simply forgave humanity without ever showing the price of said forgiveness, would he be any good? Wouldn't he just be like a corrupt politician bailing out his cousin through sheer nepotism? In the contrary, if there's a sacrifice and torture paid, and we consider the act of dying to be the pay of sin, and God descending to hell to be true and truly that he died and suffered the torment of dying, what is there left but to keep the promise and follow him? To spare each other like he did with us? To be through love, not impune, not good, not perfect, but forgiven?
