I don't often regret not having kids, I see no way of raising them outside of the corruption and degeneracy of society short of homesteadig 500 miles from civilization. It is bittersweet sometimes though, and I have my regrets. Especially when I think about all the beatings I could have been giving. You get a good 10-15 year stretch there where they are completely powerless against you and just have to take it.

The problem is, most normalfags have zero restraint and no idea how to properly dish it out. Carrying out corporal punishment in a situation where you should instead be supporting them will also ruin someone far more than simply not doing it at all, especially if you KEEP doing it, because how are they ever going to actually trust you again after that? There's a huge difference between beating the shit out of your kid because he failed a test or broke something or whatever and giving him a solid but not violent slap on the side of the head because he decided to sneak out and ended up totaling your car or something like that. Most parents are fucking retarded and instead of this they either scream at their kids like banshees, give them the silent treatment, or physically abuse them and then they wonder why they end up with problems and never want to see them again.

A little narcissism, depression, perhaps some anxiety and you have someone like my mom who isn't a horrible person but definitely a manipulative type. From ages of 12-17 when my parents were separated on and off, my mom would pull shit like keeping us from our dad all the time. That's not even the worst of it tho desu that became pretty normal. There is little difference. Outcome is not linear with severity, it's actually quite logarithmic (ie "tame" spanking results in about 70% of the detrimental outcomes that just balling up your fists and knocking the kid's teeth out would).
