But they didn't. The US has officially considered Taiwan part of the PRC for decades. The US still considers Taiwan part of the PRC. Yet, simultaneously, they're trying to justify that it's okay to start a war against the PRC to defend the independence and sovereignty of a country they literally don't recognize.
